Quilt-as-You-Go Fall Leaves

There's something so magical about the changing colors of the leaves as the weather begins to cool. Capture the beauty of autumn leaves using scraps of fabric and simple sewing!
These leaves are made using the quilt-as-you-go method, which means you quilt the project at the same time as you sew it. (If you've never tried this technique before, this is a great project to learn with.) The leaves are then finished with a raw pinked edge for the fastest finish. Seriously...you can make a leaf in 15 minutes or less!

Pattern Details
Three different leaf shapes provided
Finished leaves: approximately 6" tall and 4-6" wide
Techniques used: quilt as you go, paper templates for tracing, embroidery (optional)
Difficulty: Beginner
These fabric fall leaves can be used as drink coasters, banners, and other decor. They would also make great gifts for fall parties, birthdays, or weddings.

Products I Love
These are the products you'll need for this project!
Pinking Shears: Use pinking shears to cut fabric without fraying. You can use them to prevent unravelling thread when your project has raw edges or to cut seams to prevent bulk.
Buy on Amazon or Fat Quarter Shop.
Air-Erasable Marker: Mark cutting or sewing lines on fabric with this fine-tip fabric marker. The marked lines will disappear naturally after a few days or you can use the eraser to get rid of the marks immediately.
Buy on Amazon or Fat Quarter Shop.
Fall-Theme Fabric: Choose fabrics that feature rich color and seasonal motifs for this project. Choose fabrics from one collection if you want coordinating leaves that look great when used in decor together.
Batting: I prefer to make this project using a thin, cotton batting. Because the edges are raw, the batting can be seen a little on the sides of the project. Choosing a thin batting keeps the batting from being too visible in your finished project. My favorite is Warm and Natural.
Buy on Amazon or Fat Quarter Shop.

If you make these leaves, be sure to share them on social media using the hashtags #HappyHourStitches and #QAYGLeaves.
