How I Store My Quilts

When I first started quilting, I made quilts we needed and could use in our home. But then my quilt collection started growing -- I had quilts for each season and holiday, quilts for potential donation, quilts for my business. And as my stack of quilts grew and grew, it became harder to store my quilts. I was in desperate need of a storage system that didn't involve just stacking the quilts haphazardly in the closet and hoping for the best.

I stumbled upon these storage bags from Missouri Star and they solved all my storage problems! (Not sponsored -- I just truly love these bags!)

Here's what I love about these type of storage bags

(and the features you should look for in your own storage bags):

They're Breathable

Fabric and quilts need air. If they're stored in plastic or air-tight containers there's risk of developing mold.

They're Acid-Free

Look for archival or acid-free storage containers for your quilts. They're safe for longterm use and don't break down and leach chemicals onto your quilts.

They Fit A LOT of Quilts

I like to store my quilts by season/holiday. That way, when it's time to decorate for a new season, I can grab the needed bag and have all the quilts I need. I put quilts of all sizes within one bag (throws, wall hangings, table runners, mini quilts, and even pillow covers and coasters!). So much fits in these bags!

They Have a Handy Viewing Window and Label

The clear viewing window makes it easy to see at a glance which quilts are inside each bag, so you can quickly grab what you need. If you have extra notes or details about the quilts inside, add them to the label pocket.

They Transport Easily

Each bag has a handle so you can grab it from storage and carry it where you need it.

They're Stackable

Although they're made of soft canvas, the boxed design holds its shape, so you can stack them in a closet, on a bookshelf, or on the floor to help save space.

These storage bags have cleaned up my closet and made it so much easier to find the quilts I need! How do you store your quilts? Tell me in the comments!

Thanks for joining me for "happy hour",

Lindsay
