I'm so excited to introduce the 2026 Happy Hour Stitches Block of the Month!

I love a block of the month -- it's so fun to carve out time each month to stitch a fun, new block pattern while also connecting with others who are sewing along! I hope you all join me to make 2026 a productive and joyful year of sewing!

Keep reading for all the important details!

I've set this block of the month up as a mystery quilt! That means that each month's block will remain hidden until the pattern is released! You can see the setting above -- it's a fun take on a classic Log Cabin quilt. Each month, we'll fill in one of the holes of the quilt.

Don't worry! If you really can't wait to see the entire quilt design, you can click here! (But please don't spoil the fun for those who want the quilt to remain a mystery!)

Pattern Details

This quilt can be made in two sizes, one using 12" blocks and one using 6" blocks.

Finished sizes:

  • 60" x 80" (12" blocks) or 30" x 40" (6" blocks)

  • 12" square blocks or 6" square blocks

Techniques used:

  • Basic piecing methods (no templates or foundation piecing)

Difficulty:

  • Confident beginner

Fabric Requirements

You can use any fabrics you'd like for this block of the month! I used a variety of Ruby Star Society fabrics from their Speckled and Starry collections, which are all available now! I've linked the exact fabrics I've used below in case you want to make the quilt exactly as I did.

You can also make this quilt scrappy or get creative with your quilt's colors! Each block pattern will come with a coloring sheet, so you can play around with your fabric placement! And I've made a handy shopping list and fabric planner that you can download below!

Important note: These fabric requirements incorporate a little extra yardage for any miscuts and to factor in cutting fabric block-by-block instead of best use. But I recommend writing down the names of the fabric you buy in case you need to order more for any reason throughout the year.

Will the log cabin setting be as it appears in the picture here? Just in the corners with a bigger mystery block in the middle?
